Help me find a movie, I can't remember what it was called?

There was this movie about a guy that played in a band. His mom was
ill, and eventually she died, I think. He had a best friend that
played football, and he was going to be known for that but he always
thought he sucked. So in the end he starts to play drums in the band
that the main character used to be in.
The main character got in contact with this girl, and her dad made
music or something. So in the end the guy got the chance to set up a
play.
In this movie there where a really beautiful song, that I can't
remember. He had made it himself.
I also remember that they main character's best friend used to be
beaten up by his dad. I think the nickname for the best friend was
Pedro or something like that.
