Han did get them there, it wasn't his fault Alderaan had been
destroyed. Not all his passengers ended up dead.

In the cantina, Han Solo wanted 10,000 to get Luke and Obi Wan to
Alderaan, but they settled on 2,000 in advance and 15,000 when they
got there.
